Eight people were killed after an ambulance caught fire on the Dhaka-Khulna highway in the Maligram approach road area in Bhanga upazila of Faridpur on Saturday morning.
The deceased are Taslima Begum, 50, Kamla Begum, 30, Arif, 12, Hasib, 10, one-year-old Afsa, Beauty Begum, 26, Mehedi, 10 and ambulance driver Mridul Chandra Malo, 28.
The accident took place at around 10:45am when the ambulance driver lost control of the wheel and hit the road divider.
Mostafizur Rahman, superintendent of the Highway Police (Madaripur Zone), said primarily they are suspecting that the ambulance caught fire due to some reason after hitting the road divider.
Ranendranath Chowdhury, sub-officer at Bhanga Fire Service and Civil Defense, said that the ambulance was heading towards Dhaka.
On receiving information, firefighters reached the spot at 10:55am and extinguished the fire.
