Awami League-backed mayoral candidate Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury cast his vote in the Sylhet City Corporation election on Wednesday morning and said he is positive that he will emerge victorious.
He cast his vote at the Pathantula polling station in Ward 8 of Sylhet at 9am

Anwaruzzaman said: “Polling has started properly. I cast my vote too. Voter turnout is remarkable. We were afraid of rain, but now there is also no fear of rain. The sky is very clear. I hope I will win.”
Voters started exercising their franchise at 8am through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) at 190 centres in Sylhet.
The other mayoral candidates are the Jatiya Party's Nazrul Islam Babul and Zaker Party's Zahirul Alam, while Abdul Hanif Kutu, Salah Uddin Rimon, Shah Jahan Mia and Mostak Ahmed Rouf Mostafa are the independent candidates.
The Islami Andolan's Hafiz Maulana Mahmudul Hasan has boycotted the election.
This time the total number of voters is 487,753. Among them, 254,360 are male voters and 233,387 female voters.
