A mobile court has fined a local private hospital in Jhenaidah Tk50,000 after allegations were made that a woman died from wrong treatment.
The mobile court was conducted by Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Habibullah Habib on Sunday.
The woman, Maryam Khatun, 29, died on June 14. She was a mother of two.
According to her family members, Maryam underwent surgery at the same hospital thrice due to a tumor in her uterus.
On February 23, Maryam's father took her to Fatema Private Hospital in the district's Kaliganj upazila.
After several tests, a doctor of the hospital, Dr Aslam Hossain, said she had to undergo surgery. Maryam, however, still felt a sharp pain in her stomach two months ago, despite the surgery.
Fatama Clinic Dhaka TribuneAfter consulting with doctors, Maryam went through another surgery at the same hospital, where she died while undergoing treatment.
The surgery was done by Enamul Hossain, the younger brother of the owner of Fatema Private Hospital, Ikramul Hossain.
Maryam Khatun's father Ibrahim Mandal claimed that his daughter went through the same surgery three times but doctors never stitched her stomach after the operations.
He also said that the hospital authorities did not give them Maryam's histopathology report yet.
Ikramul Hossain, the owner of Fatima Private Hospital denied all the allegations made by Maryam's family.
Kaliganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ishrat Jahan said that Fatema Private Hospital has been fined Tk50,000 for providing medical services in an unsanitary environment and causing health damage due to negligence.
Dr Aslam Hossain did not comment on the matter, despite being contacted by Dhaka Tribune.
