A case has been filed against a 60-year-old man for reportedly raping a 11-year-old girl in Bagerhat's Fakirhat area.
The accused is identified as A Hamid Shekh, 60. He is on the run after the incident.
The rape survivor's mother filed the case under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act at Fakirhat Model police station on Saturday morning.
Maubhog police outpost Sub-Inspector Bijan Sarkar said: "On Wednesday evening, the child was playing with other children near the house. At that time, the accused resident of the same area called the child to a room with the lure of food. Then the child was forcibly raped."
Later, the child informed her family. Accused A Hamid Sheikh fled after the incident was reported in the area.
The child's family said that on the day of the incident, Hamid Sheikh called her daughter to a room and raped her by force.
Fakirhat Model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Alimuzzaman said: "The rape survivor was sent to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital on Saturday morning for medical examination. The operation to arrest the accused A Hamid Sheikh is continuing."
