At least 10 students and teachers were injured as students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) and locals clashed in front of the campus' main entrance on Friday.
Witnesses said that the conflict initially erupted when university security guards, and students stopped outsiders from entering the university premises.
Later, a clash broke out between the locals and the students of the university.
The students created a roadblock in front of the university entrance, which led to a chase and further skirmishes between the local residents and the students.
Dhaka TribuneSust Proctor Dr Md Qumruzzaman Chowdhury confirmed that the conflict arose over outsiders trying to enter the campus.
In the clash, two assistant proctors and eight to nine students were injured. They have been hospitalized, he said.
The situation on the campus is now normal and students have returned to their dormitories, he added.
Jalalabad police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saiful Alam informed that the situation is now under control and additional police have been deployed in the area.
