Policeman crushed under wheels of train in Gazipur

His left side was bruised, says doctor

A policeman was crushed under the wheels of a train in Gazipur's Tongi area Tuesday morning.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Baten, a constable of Tongi Railway police outpost. He was a resident of Shahjadpur thana in Sirajganj district.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tongi Railway Police Outpost Ferdous Ahmed Biswas said that policeman Abdul Baten was on duty in civilian clothes on the south side of Tongi railway station in the morning. 

Meanwhile, the Dhaka-bound Sirajganj Express train from Sirajganj reached Tongi railway station at 10:15am and hit Abdul Baten. At that time, he fell on the railway line and was injured by the train.

Other policemen on duty rescued him and took him to Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital in Tongi where he died, the OC added.

Tongi Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital emergency department doctor Nafis Majeed said that the left side of Abdul Baten's body was bruised. He died at the hospital at 10:20am shortly after he was advised to be sent to National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) in Dhaka after first aid.

ASI Kamal Hossain said that Abdul Baten was working as a constable at Tongi Railway Police Outpost for the last two years. He lived in Tongi area with his wife and two sons.
