Four mayoral candidates have submitted their nomination papers for the Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) election.
Tuesday was the last day for withdrawal and submission of nomination papers. Four submitted nomination papers for the office of mayor, 124 for general councillor posts and 46 for reserved women councillor posts.
However, 142 for general councillor posts and 47 for reserved women councillor posts had collected nomination papers.
RCC Election Returning Officer and Regional Election Officer Delwar Hossain said: "The candidates for mayor, councillor and reserved women councillor posts have submitted their nomination papers in accordance with the electoral code of conduct since the first day of the submission of nomination papers."
Campaigns are being conducted to ensure that all candidates follow the code of conduct during their election campaigns.
The four mayoral candidates are the Awami League's AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, the Jatiya Party's Saiful Islam Swapan, the Islami Andolan Bangladesh's Maulana Murshid Alam Farooqui and the Zaker Party's Latif Anwar.
The nomination papers will be scrutinized on Thursday. Nominations can be withdrawn by June 1 and symbols will be allotted on June 2.
The election will be held on June 21.
However, if any candidate after scrutiny feels that he has not been treated fairly by the returning officer in the selection, he can appeal to the appellate authority; the divisional commissioner has been appointed as the appellate authority.
The deadline for filing appeals with the appellate authority is May 28. The deadline for the disposal of appeals by the authority is May 31.
As many as 352,157 will vote in the Rajshahi polls this time.
Of them, 171,185 are men and 189,972 are women.
Among them, there are 30,157 new voters.
On June 21, polling will be held continuously from 8am to 4pm. The Rajshahi City election will be conducted through electronic voting machines (EVMs). This time voting will be held in 117,300 booths at a possible 152 polling stations.
