Mustafizur Rahaman Chowdhury, the member of parliament from Chittagong-16 (Banshkhali) constituency, has led a protest march allegedly carrying a pistol in the upazila as seen in a viral video.

Banshkhali upazila unit Awami League organized the protest march against the Rajshahi BNP leader's death threat to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday.

A 3:44-minute video of the incident went viral on social media.

In the video, it was seen that Awami League leaders and activists were marching with banners.

Lawmaker Mustafizur Rahaman Chowdhury was seen leading the procession and at one stage he took out a pistol from a handbag. Then he started walking with the pistol.

The lawmaker could not be reached for comment despite repeated attempts over the phone.

Banshkhali's Chambal union Chairman Mujibul Haque Chowdhury, who was also present in the procession, said he does not know whether the lawmaker had his pistol out during the procession. “However, I know he has a licensed pistol. He may have kept it with him for safety.”

Kamal Uddin, OC of Banskhali police station said: "I was not in Banskhali all day on Monday. That's why I didn't see it. But the MP has a licensed pistol. Maybe he kept it with him for his own safety.”
