A five-member probe body has been formed over the derailments of three compartments of a Sylhet-bound train that left at least 50 people injured in Moulvibazar.

The five-member committee is headed by Khairul Kabir, divisional transport officer (Dhaka Division) of Bangladesh Railways.

Srimangal Railway Station Master Shakhawat Hossain said that the investigation committee visited the spot.

Rail Communication on Sylhet, Dhaka and Chittagong routes resumed this evening after 15 hours of suspension following the derailment.

Earlier in the day, the official said: "The accident occurred while the train was crossing Lawachara and it collided with a large tree that leaned on the rail line during a heavy rainstorm at night. The train's engine, a passenger compartment and a food compartment derailed and overturned."

Later, two rescue trains from Parakulaura and Akhaura are leaving for the scene. However, it is not yet known when the rail link will be restored, he added.

One of the passengers, Rahat Ahmed, said most of the commuters were dozing off and woke up to a loud shake in the vehicle.

He also said that as the train operation was suspended, most of the passengers got down and went to their destinations on their own.
