Kaunia police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Saidul Haque has been withdrawn for taking a selfie with arrested Barisal Metropolitan Chhatra League Convenor Rois Uddin Manna on the way to the police station.
People started criticizing after the police officer posted the picture on the social media platform Facebook.
The CCTV footage of arrested Manna and his other associates relaxing inside the police station custody has also gone viral on social media.
Police Deputy Commissioner Nazrul Islam said: "For public interest and administrative reasons, SI Saidul Haque has been withdrawn and attached to Barisal district police line. I don't want to say anything more."
When asked whether anyone has taken the CCTV footage from the Kaunia police station Officer-in-Charge Abdur Rahman Mukul said: "Investigation is underway, action will be taken accordingly if there is any weakness."
On Sunday around 9:30 pm, Chhatra League leader Manna and his followers beat Awami League mayoral candidate Khokon Serniabat's supporters with rods. At that time Manna pointed a pistol at Khokon's supporters and severely beat and injured them.
Later, the injured were admitted to Barisal Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
The injured are Halim, Mona and Zahidul.
Jubo League Joint General Secretary Mona Ahmed filed a case as a plaintiff in this incident.
Later police arrested 13 people including Manna in that case.
The arrestees were sent to jail on Monday following a court order.
