Nine days ago, an explosion at the same area took place in a similar unauthorized cylinder storage and refill warehouse

Update : 13 May 2023, 03:41 PM

Five people were injured yet in another explosion in an unauthorized cylinder storage and refill warehouse in Savar on Saturday.

The blast took place around 10am at the Tetultala area near Fantasy Kingdom in Ashulia.

The injured were identified as Belal Mia, 40, the owner of the warehouse, and his employees Md Noorunnabi, 20, and Sohag, 19.

In addition, two others named Md Mahbub, 35, and Md Shariful, 28, were among the injured. Their detailed identities have not been determined yet.

The victims are currently under treatment at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

A local resident disclosed that this warehouse was located within a residential area and reportedly stored gas cylinders, with refilling operations often taking place without proper authorization.

Cautioning that this area houses around 40-50 such warehouses, the local resident recalled a similar explosion in another factory in Ashulia just a few days ago, underlining the potential risks of such operations within residential zones.

DEPZ Fire Service Warehouse Inspector Waliullah reported that the explosion and consequent fire happened around 9:55am.

Upon receiving the news, two firefighting units arrived at the scene and brought the fire under control after nearly an hour.

The injured individuals were initially taken to a local women and child health centre hospital. However, due to the severity of their injuries, the attending physicians referred them to the burn unit of DMCH.
