Human chain, rally held in Satkhira protesting Netrokona schoolgirl murder

At the protest rally, speakers demanded security for all citizens including those from minority communities

Protesting the recent killing of schoolgirl Mukti Rani Barman in Barhatta upazila of Netrokona, the non-government organization Bangladesh Mahila Parishad on Thursday formed a human chain and protest rally in Satkhira.

BMP Satkhira President Jyotsna Dutta presided over the human chain and rally held at Satkhira Shahid Abdur Razzak Park.

Madhav Chandra Dutta, executive director of the non-governmental development organization Swadesh, and human rights activist Shyamal Kumar Biswas, executive director of Sido, among others, spoke at the protest rally.

Various social organizations of Satkhira, human rights organizations, journalists, representatives of civilized society, professionals and cultural organizations participated in the protest rally.

Speakers said that attacks on minority communities are being carried out one after another.

In Satkhira, too, there have been several attacks on minority communities recently. Recently, a victim named Narendra Munda was killed. In Shyamnagar, Satkhira, the house of one named Yudhisthir was set on fire. Minority communities are worried about these incidents, they noted.

Speakers demanded security for all citizens including those belonging to minority communities.

Mukti Rani Barman, 15, daughter of Nikhil Barman of Premnagor Chhalipura village in Barhatta, was stabbed dead allegedly by a stalker on Tuesday.

Members of the Detective Branch of Police on Wednesday arrested suspect Kawser Mia, 18.

During primary interrogation, the accused admitted to his involvement in the killing of the 15-year-old girl.

Quoting family members, Khokon Kumar Saha, officer-in-charge of Barhatta police station, said Kawser Mia used to stalk Mukti on her way to school. She on multiple occasions had fended off his advances and Kawser threatened her with dire consequences.
