Train movement from Chittagong and Sylhet to Dhaka has been suspended once again due to railway line bending from excessive heat in Brahmanbaria, just 16 hours after train service had resumed.
The train service stopped after 12pm on Saturday as railway authorities noticed railway tracks bending due to the heatwave, Brahmanabaria Railway Station Master Rafiqul Islam confirmed.
He said the line cannot be repaired until it cools down.
However, train services on the down line have been kept operational, he added.
The station master further stated that the condition of the down line is not very good either and there is a risk that this line may also bend due to the heat.
"The higher authorities have instructed us to keep train service operational at a speed limit of 30 kilometres," he added.
Earlier, seven coaches of a freight train derailed in the Dariyapur area of Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila on Thursday.
The railway department reported that the accident occurred due to the bending of the line in the heat.
Subsequently, with the authorities' prompt action within 30 hours, the Dhaka-bound up line was made operational for train services on Friday night.
A five-member probe committee has been formed to investigate the incident.
