The temperature in the district had ranged between 36°C-38°C in the past few days

Update : 21 Apr 2023, 06:13 PM

Following days of sweltering heat, the much-awaited rain has finally brought a sense of relief to the residents of the Moulvibazar district.

The heavy rainfall began on Friday afternoon after a short-lived storm on Thursday night which dropped the temperature slightly.

In the past few days, the temperature in the district had ranged between 36°C-38°C, said Sreemangal Meteorological Centre Official Mujibur Rahman.

Residents of the district, particularly children and the elderly, suffered immensely during the heatwave.

People were reluctant to leave their homes unless necessary, and tea garden workers struggled to pluck tea leaves and harvest paddy in the intense heat.

Shahed Ahmed, an owner of a lemon and pineapple garden in Kamolganj upazila, said that people had been desperate for the rain to provide relief from the heat.

A severe heatwave has been sweeping over the districts of Rajshshi, Pabna, Jessore, Chuadanga and Kushtia while a mild to moderate heatwave has been sweeping over Dhaka division and the rest parts of Rajshahi and Khulna divisions and the districts of Rangpur, Dinajpur, Moulvibazar, Rangamati, Bandarban and Bhola.
