The Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) of the police has arrested two active members of the banned militant organization Hizb ut-Tahrir.
Mamun ur Rashid alias Munna (27) was arrested in Baliapukur under Boalia police station on April 16.
Based on his information, another member and Rajshahi University (RU) student Ishaq alias Ismail Hossain was arrested in Kazirkhil of Hajiganj police station in Chandpur on Monday.
A case has been filed against the accused. The court granted remand to Mamun ur Rashid alias Munna for four days and Ishaq alias Ismail Hossain for three days.
Additional Superintendent of Police Rakibul Hasan of Rajshahi ATU said in a press release that the accused were asked about the objectives and activities of Hizb ut-Tahrir, the call for the establishment of the caliphate, and the process of forming the party.
At the time, anti-state and democratic writings and other alleged jihadi documents, three mobile phones used for spreading extremist propaganda, three SIM cards, copies of 11 contents and handwritten notebooks were seized.
They used to discuss these contents and conduct organizational activities by organizing lectures at different times in different areas including the Rajshahi University area.
