The Coast Guard has arrested an alleged smuggler for possessing 120kg of deer meat during an operation in East Gharilal area of Khulna's Koyra.
The arrestee is Md Shah Alam, 35, hailing from Chadnimukha Paisyamari under Shyamnagar Upazila in Satkhira.
Media Officer of the Coast Guard Headquarters Lt Commander Abdur Rahman the Koyra BCG station under Coast Guard West Zone conducted a special operation in East Gharilal area around 5am on Monday based on secret information.
At that time, they found the venison in a van and arrested Shah Alam and the van puller.
The seized deer meat, the van and the duo were handed over to the officer-in-charge of Andharmanik Forest Office for further legal action.
Coast Guard officials said they will continue drives to stop the illegal poaching of wild deer in the Sundarbans mangrove forest.
