Gazipur food factories fined over hygiene issues

The two factories were producing biscuits, daily items, juice and chocolate in an unhygienic environment

A mobile court of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-1) has fined two companies Tk4 lakh for producing bread and dairy products in unhygienic conditions in Tongi.

The factories were illegally producing biscuits, dairy milk, juice and chocolate. A BSTI representative was present during the mobile court operation.

Yamin Food and Beverage Ltd and Sharik Melamine Industries Ltd also did not have necessary documents to produce such products, RAB-1 Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Parvez Rana said after the raids on Tuesday.

In Tongi East area, Yamin Food owner Abdur Rauf Khan was fined Tk2.5 lakh for the crime of producing adulterated food in an unhealthy environment. On the other hand, Sharik Melamine owner Sunil Das was ordered a fine of Tk1.5 lakh for the same offence.
