Police arrested eight leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami from Satkhira district on charges of attempted sabotage on Monday.
They were held while holding a “secret meeting” to conspire against the nation in front of Khanpur Paschimpara Jame Mosque in Sadar upazila on Monday morning.
Meanwhile, 4 cocktail sticks and shoes have been seized.
The arrestees are District BNP joint convener Tariqul Hasan and District Jamaat Naib Amir Nurul Huda, District Jamaat West Zone Ameer Mao Mosharraf Hossain Sardar, Nazrul Islam, convenor of Sadar Thana Juba Dal, No 9 Shibpur Union Jamaat President Abdul Hakim, Hakeem Molya Mintu, Shibpur Union Student Camp President, Jamshed Alam and Fajr Ali Molya.
Sadar police station Sub Inspector (SI) Aziz Mahmood filed a case under the Arms and Explosives Act In this connection.
Satkhira Sadar police station officer-in-charge Abu Jihad Md Fakrul Alam Khan said: “They were arrested red-handed with four cocktail-like objects on a tip-off while meeting together. The arrested have been sent to jail through the court.”
