The police detained 12 activists of Jamalpur BNP and its affiliates from different parts of the city on Friday.
The detainees include Jamalpur BNP Vice President Liaquat Ali, among other local leaders.
BNP National Executive Committee Co-Organizing Secretary Shah Md Waresh Ali Mamun said the police are detaining and filing cases against BNP leaders and activists for no reason, before demanding their immediate and unconditional release.
Jamalpur Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Kazi Shahnewaz said the police detained the 12 BNP men for carrying out sabotage.
They will be sued, he said, adding that they will be sent to court on Saturday.
