A 10-year-old boy has been reportedly tortured by a villager after tying him up with a tree at Shyambazar village of Kashiani upazila.
The incident took place at the village in Ratil union of the upazila on Wednesday.
The torture allegation has been raised against Hemayet Sheikh, a resident of the village.
The victim is a resident of Pathorghata village and a fourth grader of Dhankora Government Primary School.
Selina Begum, the physically challenged mother, said that the boy left home for school in the morning.
Yusuf Sheikh, the younger brother of Hemayet Sheikh of Shyambazar village, dragged the 10-year-old by the collar of his dress from the Dhankora Government Primary School ground in a van and took him to his home during his tiffin period.
Hemayet tied the boy's two hands with a rope and beat him, bringing an allegation against him of stealing coconut from his tree. Later, he was brought to the local market and was tied up there. At one point, Hemayet Sheikh informed the boy's father that his son had been tied up in the market. If he did come to rescue his son, his son would be sent to the police station, claimed Selina.
She demanded proper justice for his son's torture.
Md Rabiul Islam, member of 40 no ward of Ratil union, confirmed the matter and said that he rescued the boy and handed him over to his family.
The accused Hemayet said that his brother caught the boy and brought him to their house for stealing two coconuts from their tree. Later, he tied his hands with a rope to give him a good lesson. Later, Rabiul member rescued him and took him away.
Mohammad Feroz Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kashiani police station, said that he has not received any such complaint. Legal action will be taken if complaints are received.
A picture of tied hands, which spread on Facebook, sparked huge criticism among the local residents.
