The students of Rajshahi University (RU) on Sunday blocked Dhaka-Rajshahi Highway over the clash that took place on Saturday night.

The students have also set fire to the institution's main gate, and remained there for the duration of the protests.

They blocked on the highway at around 1pm, and the blockade continued till 5pm.

Members of Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and police were deployed on the highway to control the situation.

Meanwhile, the traffic movement was halted on the highway due to the protest, and presence of law enforcers.

The students were also seen chanting various slogans blaming the university authorities's non-operation and failure to intervene during the clash.

They also put blames on the police for attacking the university students.

Earlier in the day, the agitated RU students locked up the institution's administrative building demanding justice over the clash, which left over 200 injured.

Meanwhile, RU Vice Chancellor Professor Golam Sabbir Sattar is facing pressure from the agitated students. During his visit to the administrative building, the students chanted various slogans against him.

Meanwhile, the presence of students and traffic inside the campus was comparatively low in the morning, due to classes and exams for Sunday and Monday being suspended due to the clash.

The students announced that they would gather in front of Shaheed Dr Shamsuzzoha Chattar of the university at 10am.

More than 200 people, including campus journalists, were injured in the clash that broke out between Rajshahi University students and locals on Saturday.

In the evening, an altercation between a student of the university and employees of a bus over bus fare reportedly snowballed into a clash with local shopkeepers.
