None of the resigning teachers agreed to comment on the topic

The proctor, assistant proctor of Chittagong University (CU), and 15 others have resigned from their administrative posts.

Acting registrar of CU KM Nur Ahmed said proctor Dr Rabiul Hasan Bhuiya and assistant proctor Dr Shahidul Islam submitted their resignation letters.

According to sources, 16 teachers resigned from 18 administrative positions due to conflicts with the vice chancellor over the administering of university activities.

Meanwhile, acting registrar Noor Ahmed said: “I have received the resignation letters of 16 persons. They resigned on personal grounds.”

None of the resigning teachers agreed to comment on the topic.

On March 7, the first female assistant proctor of the university and assistant professor of the Chemistry Department Mariam Islam resigned from her post.

Multiple sources said these teachers were in a long-running dispute with Vice Chancellor Dr Shireen Akhtar over the management of the university's activities, despite the fact that all of them were assigned to various administrative positions during her tenure.

The teachers disagreed on a variety of issues, including the influence of syndicate members and the interference of relatives on the VC's decisions.

The resigned teachers believed that the criticisms and controversies that have arisen over the various administrative decisions of Chittagong University in recent times are the responsibility of those close to the VC.

In this situation, 16 teachers decided to withdraw from administrative posts, according to sources.

VC Shireen Akter could not be reached for comment.
