Four people have been arrested in connection with assaulting an Islamic speaker in Akhaura, Brahmanbaria.
A team of the Rapid Action Battalion-9 (RAB) nabbed them on Tuesday from various areas of Chittagong and Brahmanbaria.
The information was given in a press conference in Brahmanbaria on Wednesday at 1:30pm.
The arrestees are identified as Zakir Hossain Zaku, 48, Mahbubul Al Shimul, 33, Sumon, 35 and Md Amirul Islam Rimon, 20.
Wing Commander Md Mominul Haque, commanding officer of RAB-9, said Islamic speaker Maulana Shariful Islam Bhuiyan and one of his associates were returning home on a motorcycle after the mahfil in Daulatbari area of Bijoynagar on Saturday night.
On the way, the accused ambushed and attacked them near Azampur railway station area of Akhaura upazila, said the wing commander.
At this time, Shariful sustained injuries in different parts of his body including tongue and lips, Mominul said.
They also beat up Shariful's associate, vandalized their motorcycle and left the spot quickly, he said.

Maulana Shariful Islam's uncle Abdul Bachir Buiyan filed a case against two named and 5-7 unidentified people at Akhaura police station, he added.
During the preliminary interrogation, the arrestees said they did not like some parts of Shariful Islam's speech at the mahfil. They became angry and decided to take action against him. Which is why they ambushed and attacked him.
“We will find out whether anyone else was involved in the attack or not after the full investigation,” said Mominul.
The attack on Maulana Shariful Islam caused widespread criticism across the country.
On Tuesday, his supporters held a protest and formed a human chain in front of the Brahmanbaria Press Club.
