A Rohingya youth was rescued by local people in an unconscious state from Sreepur upazila in Gazipur on Monday night.
The youth is identified as Rubel Mohammad, 22, son of deceased Abdur Rahman of Mundu area of Rakhine state of Myanmar. Currently, he lives in camp No 2, Panbazar, Ukhiya Rohingya Camp, Cox's Bazar.
Being rescued, he was taken to Sreepur upazila health complex.
The Rohingya youth was rescued from north of Golaghat Bazar (beside the railway line) of Barmi Union of Sreepur upazila at 10:30pm. He is currently in Sreepur police custody, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sreepur Police Station Mohammad Moniruzzaman confirming the matter on Tuesday.
He will be sent back to the Rohingya camp by legal process (through court), added the police official.
Barmi Union Parishad Chairman Tofazzal Hossain said that he came to know through the locals that a young man was lying unconscious in Golaghat area.
Later, he rescued the youth with the help of local UP members and village police.
“As he was sick, I advised to take him to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex,” said the UP chairman.
Asmaul Husna, a doctor in the emergency department of Sreepur Upazila Health Complex, said that some people brought the young man to the hospital around 11:30pm when he was sick and unconscious. When he regained consciousness after primary treatment, he identified himself as Rohingya.
After hearing his identity, the matter was informed to Sreepur police station from the hospital.
Later, police came and took the young man to the police station, said the doctor.
