Over 2,000 shanties gutted in Cox's Bazar Rohingya camp fire

Six units of fire service brought the fire under control

Over 2,000 shanties were burnt as a fire broke out at Rohingya camp number 11 Balukhali in Cox's Bazar Sunday afternoon.

Confirming the information, Ukhiya Balukhali Rohingya Camp in-charge (Senior Assistant Secretary) Sarwar Kamal said: “After about two hours, the camp fire was brought under control. The cause of the fire is yet to be identified.”

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ukhiya police station Sheikh Mohammad Ali said that six units of fire service worked to control the fire. Police were sent to the spot upon hearing the news of the fire. Along with that, various forces were deployed to avoid major damage.

Shafiq Ullah, a resident of Ukhiya camp affected by the fire, said: “I have become destitute as everything has been burnt in the fire. More than 2,000 houses were burnt here including several shops.”
