A madrasa student was seriously injured after reportedly being beaten by his teachers for using mobile phone in the campus in Barisal.
The student was hospitalized on Saturday afternoon after suffering serious injuries from the beating, said Monir Hossain, brother of the injured madrasa student Hasibur Rahman
Injured Hasibur is an eighth grade student of Tahfizul Millat Cadet Madrasa located in Nathullabad area of Barisal city.
Monir Hossain, brother of the injured, said Hasibur carried a phone to contact his family although the madrasa authority prohibited any use of mobile phone in the campus.
Madrasa Director and teacher Shafiqul Islam seized the mobile phone from Hasibur and started using the phone himself.
On Wednesday, Hasibur's father went to the madrasa to receive the phone. However, the madrasa teacher did not return him the phone event after making him wait for a long time.
According to Monir, Hasibur was severely beaten and locked up in a room in the madrasa by the director of the madrasa, Shafiqul Islam.
On Friday, Hasibur returned home in a seriously injured state.
On Saturday, Hasibur revealed the matter to family members when he was taken to his uncle's house.
His uncle, Sumon Mir, a member of ward number two of Kashipur Union Parishad (UP), filed a written complaint with Kotwali police station in Barisal.
UP member Suman Mir said police conducted a raid at the hospital but failed to arrest the accused madrasa teacher.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Shafiqur Rhman of Kotwali police station said: “I went to the madrasa after receiving the complaint. But the accused was not there. Later I contacted him over mobile phone. He said he was in a program and would contact later.”
Shafiqul Islam said on the mobile phone that the matter was resolved after talking with family members of Hasibur and police.
He said: “This is a very undesirable incident. Everyone including me is sorry for that. This boy has been studying here for five years. But never caused any trouble until he started using mobile phone at the institution.”
