Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque on Thursday said stern action would be taken against syndicates in Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RpMCH).

“We have received complaints that syndicates have held the hospital hostage. We have already got a lot of information about them. There will be no more syndicates in RpMCH and stern action will be taken against them,” he promised.

He was talking to reporters after inaugurating the 100-bed Rangpur Shishu Hospital (RSH) in the old Sadar Hospital premises of Rangpur.

He also inspected Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

The health minister said several employees, including the director, deputy director, doctors and nurses of Rangpur Medical College Hospital have been transferred to different hospitals in the country after several complaints, including allegations of irregularities in service, were received against them.

He warned that those who disrupt the functioning of the hospital and seek to profit at the expense of patients will not be kept in the hospital.

“We will ensure that people get the desired services,” said Maleque.

Stating that Rangpur Medical College Hospital has more than 1000 beds and modern equipment, the health minister said: “Still I visited RpMCH to find out why people are not getting better services from this hospital.”

Regarding the Shishu Hospital, Maleque said: “The 100-bed Rangpur Shishu Hospital has been built to ensure better healthcare services for the children of Rangpur division.”

Maleque said the 100-bed RSH is equipped with advanced machinery including 70-80 beds with a central oxygen supply system and a 15-bed ICU and CCU unit.

"If needed, more machinery and manpower will be given to RSH to ensure better healthcare services for children," he said.

“Mothers and children of Rangpur division and surrounding districts will be able to  get treatment in this hospital,” he added.

The Health Engineering Department has implemented the construction of the three-story RSH building at a cost of Tk31.49 crore in the first phase of the six-story government hospital, paving the way for the provision of modern health services to children in Rangpur division.
