Police have arrested 20 activists of Shibir on charges of vandalizing a vehicle on the highway, blasting cocktails and creating panic in Gazipur on Monday night.
GMP Deputy Commissioner (Crime) Abu Torab Md Shamsur Rahman confirmed the matter at a press conference on Tuesday.
Sanwar Jahan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) Bason police station, said that recently Jamaat-e-Islami's central ameer and party camp leaders were arrested. In this regard, the activists threw bricks and vandalized a moving vehicle in front of Bhogra area's Riyadh Digital Diagnostics under Bason police station at about 10pm on Monday.
At one point, they blasted cocktails causing panic. On receiving the information, the police arrested 20 leaders and activists of the camp from the spot. They were sent to jail through the court in the afternoon after filing a case of explosives under the Special Powers Act.
