A man died after getting his genitals cut off while attempting to rape a woman in Bogra's Shibganj upazila Tuesday morning.
The deceased Ershadul Islam, 35, died while undergoing treatment at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.
The incident took place on Monday night.
Manjurul Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shibganj police station, said that earlier Ershadul was arrested in the case of attempted rape of the same woman and was in jail. About three months ago, after being released on bail, he tried to rape her again.
The woman has been arrested in connection with his death. She admitted her involvement in the incident. A murder case is being prepared at the police station in this regard, the OC added.
Police and local sources said that after being released on bail, Ershadul came to the area and started harassing the woman again. When her husband went to the market around 8pm on Monday, Ershadul tried to enter her house with the intention of raping her.
The woman kept a blade with her upon realizing his presence. When Ershadul attempted to rape her, she cut off his genitals in order to protect herself, they added.
Locals rushed to the spot upon hearing his screaming and took him to the hospital.
Ershadul was the president of ward number 7 of Kitchak union Awami League. General Secretary of Shibganj upazila Awami League Touhidur Rahman Manik said that Ershadul was expelled from the organization due to his involvement with immoral activities.
