A 29-year-old man surrendered to police after killing his father over a trivial matter at Shantinagar in Thakurgaon district early Monday.
Golam Azam went to the local police station and said he stabbed his father Fazle Haque, 69 to death in the middle of the night.
Later, police recovered the body and sent it to the local hospital morgue for autopsy.
Quoting local people, Thakurgaon Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kamal Hossain said Azam completed his study at the Software Engineering Department of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) and worked in different banks.
“However, Golam had some mental health issues and that is why he could not hold any job for a long time. He was being treated at home for his mental health complications which he did not like. On the night of the incident, he got angry with his father for forcing him to take the medicine. At one point, Golam stabbed his father,” said Kamal Hossain.
“Golam Azam told us that he was not mad but was angry at being declared mad and being drugged. We are investigating the matter, soon the truth will be revealed,” he added.
Ramisha Banu, the mother of Azam, filed a case with Sadar police station.
