Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is set to inaugurate Bangladesh's largest mural of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Rajshahi on Sunday.
The Awami League president would visit Rajshahi, after five long years for an election campaign.
Preparations for the arrival of the prime minister have already been completed.
Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) has built the mural at the city's C&B Crossing at a cost of around Tk5.02 crore.
Dhaka TribuneIt is part of RCC's Tk2,993 crore project titled “Integrated Urban Infrastructure Development in Rajshahi City”.
The total height of the mural is 58 feet, while the main part of the mural is about 500 feet. The structure has a 40-feet wide Bangabandhu photo in the middle.
Terracotta works were done on 700-feet space on both sides of the boundary wall. A great deal of attention has been paid to the design of the gallery and landscaping using super granite.
In this regard, RCC Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton said the mural would inspire people to learn more about Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's life, work and his commendable contribution and sacrifice for the country's independence.
Dhaka TribuneOn one side of the portrait of Bangabandhu, images of Bangladesh's folk culture have been depicted. Meanwhile, the history of the 1971 Liberation War and 1952 Language Movement is highlighted on the other side.
RCC's Deputy Assistant Engineer Shahriar Parag said he is proud that one of his hard works would be inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
“I was involved in a lot of other development work in Rajshahi. But this development project is different. This is the mural of our Father of the Nation Bangabandhu. I feel very proud when people come to see the structure. My chest fills up with joy,” he said.
Other development projects
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate 25 projects with involvement of around Tk1,316.97 crore during her daylong visit to Rajshahi.
The premier is also likely to lay the foundation stones of six other projects with an estimated cost of around Tk376.28 crore.
