A shivering cold coupled with dense fog has been disrupting daily activities of the people in the northern district Dinajpur.

Amid this, the lowest temperature of the season in the district was recorded at 7.9 ˚C on Tuesday morning, according to the local meteorological department.

The temperature has been hovering between 9 and 11 degrees Celsius since last week.

Earlier, the lowest temperature recorded in the district on Monday was 8.4°C while it was 9.5°C on Sunday and 9.4°C on Saturday.

The shivering cold along with bone-chilling wind is disrupting daily life in the district. The daily wage earners, who could not go out in search of work because of a lack of warm clothing, are the worst sufferers. They are unable to go to work in the morning due to lack of warm clothes.

Vehicles are moving with headlights on, even in the mornings, to avoid accidents due to dense fog.

Fog drops are falling like drizzle.

Besides, the number of children and elderly patients with cold-related diseases in the hospital has increased. Hospital doctors and nurses are struggling to provide medical services.

Around 120 to 130 children are being treated daily in the Shishu Hospital. An average of 60 children and elderly people are receiving treatment at M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital and 40 children and elderly people at sadar hospital.

Dinajpur Civil Surgeon Dr Borhan Ul Islam Siddiqui said that there is no shortage of medicines in the government. Appropriate treatment is being given to patients.

Medical officers along with specialist doctors are working, he said.

On the other hand, although the District Administrator has distributed blankets, it is not enough with the demand. However, many are distributing blankets voluntarily.
