The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Sunday night arrested a man from Savar's Ashulia area for kidnapping and killing a 6-year-old girl, who was his neighbour's child, after luring her with chocolates.
The arrestee, Abdul Kader, 20, is set to be produced before a court on Monday.
During primary interrogation, the arrestee confessed to committing the crime and told police where he dumped the body.
The child's body was recovered from a nearby drain on Sunday, four days after she was reported missing, said Ashulia police station Inspector (Operations) Jamal Sikder.
According to the case statement, Kader lured the child, Silthia, with chocolates when she was playing. He kept her in his room, but when she screamed for help, Kader suffocated her to death.
That night, the child's father got phone calls from different numbers, which demanded ransom. He reportedly sent Tk15,000 to the kidnappers in various numbers.
Later, RAB traced the numbers and arrested Kader in connection with the crime.
Law enforcement officials said that the child was killed the same night she was kidnapped. Her body was kept under Kader's bed for two days.
A case has been filed by Sinthia's father against Kader, and four unnamed individuals.
