Dinajpur shivers as mercury drops to 10°C

Number of patients in hospitals for winter diseases is increasing

Update : 08 Jan 2023, 11:01 AM

Bitter cold is disrupting daily life in Dinajpur, with the mercury in the northern district dropping as low as 10°C on Sunday morning.

The daily wage earners, who cannot go out in search of work because of a lack of warm clothing, are the worst sufferers.

The number of patients – mostly children and elderly – in hospitals for winter diseases has also seen an uptick, and healthcare professionals are struggling to attend to all of them.

Vehicles plying roads in the area are forced to keep their headlights on during most of the day due to low visibility caused by dense fog.

Meanwhile, farmers are concerned as seedbeds are at risk of being damaged, and animals in the district, including cattle and goats, are also suffering in the bone-chilling cold.
