Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is set to Rajshahi on January 29 after five long years for an election campaign.
Local Awami League leaders and workers have already started preparations to welcome the premier.
The local Awami League unit is expecting at least 700,000 people to attend the campaign rally.
Local leaders say that not only the people of Rajshahi but also the people from surrounding districts are happy to know Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is visiting Rajshahi.
In this regard, Rajshahi metropolitan unit Awami League General Secretary DB Sarkar said that all the leaders and workers of Rajshahi are having a busy time as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be visiting soon.
“Meetings are being held in wards. Party leaders will visit the field on January 11. After January 14, a massive campaign will begin,” he added.
Meanwhile, acting President of Rajshahi Metropolitan unit Awami League Mohammad Ali Kamal said all types of work and planning are being executed to make the campaign rally a success.
He added that they are expecting some 700,000 people on January 29, and they have set up projectors at the Eidgah Maidan.
Kamal also said that at least 100 ornamented arches will be set up as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is visiting the district after five long years.
He added that the local Awami League will let Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina know about its expectations as well.
This would be the first election campaign held after the formation of the 22nd national council of Awami League.
Apart from district unit leaders, the central committee of the ruling party would also participate in the meeting.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina started the election campaign in Jessore on November 24.
She also addressed a mass rally in Chittagong on December 4 and on December 7 at the Sheikh Kamal Cricket Stadium in Cox's Bazar.
In these public meetings, the party president gave new messages to the people as well as Awami League leaders and activists.
