The movement of vehicles on the roads and highways is being disrupted as thick fog blankets Madaripur from midnight to morning.
The river basins of the district became shrouded in dense fog at midnight. Due to this, visibility came down to near zero on Saturday morning. The fog became so dense that nothing could be seen even at a short distance.
The biting cold disrupted the daily life of the locals as well, with most preferring to stay home rather than go out. The streets and local marketplaces were mostly empty.
Low-income people were facing trouble as they could not go to work.
Bangla TribuneAbul Hossain, a 60-year-old farmer from the Shibchar Charjanazat area, said it has been very cold for a few days with thick fog. It has been very difficult for them to go to work in the morning. Many people are getting sick as well. But they are forced to go to work to put food on the table.
The Dhaka-Bhanga expressway was covered in thick fog. Traffic was slow on Saturday morning on the expressway. The number of vehicles on this expressway was also very low. Two or three cars were seen plying the road but all of them were using headlights.
Anwar Hossain, an autorickshaw driver, said he left for Shibchar from Madaripur early in the morning. It usually takes an hour to go to Shibchar, but it took him two and a half hours to get to Shibchar due to dense fog.
Bangla TribuneAccording to Shibchar highway police sources, the thickness of fog has increased since night. Due to this, there was less traffic on the highway. Although no untoward incident has been reported so far, the highway police team is on duty on the highway to prevent such incidents.
Shibchar highway police SI Abdullah Hel Baki said that traffic was slow on the highway due to fog. Vehicles were running with headlights on. The highway police team is on the alert to avert any accidents on the road.
