Winter has started to show its strength with heavy fog in Chuadanga. Although the sun is visible during the day, the surroundings are shrouded in fog from evening to morning.
As the mercury level drops in Chuadanga at 12.4°C at 9am on Thursday, farmers are now in fear of incurring losses because their crops might be affected by dense fog.
They say the work of preparing paddy seed beds is going on in the field. Apart from this, the farmers are also cultivating other crops like potatoes and corn. These crops are getting damaged due to fog, according to the farmers.
Mohibul Alam, a farmer of Hatikata village under Sadar upazila in Chuadanga, said there is heavy fog in the crop fields at night. Polythene has to be used to protect potato fields which in turn increases production costs.
Rakibul Hasan, in-charge of Chuadanga Meteorological Office, said the cold wave was yet to hit the district. That is why the temperature is somewhat bearable.
However, once the fog clears, a cold wave will hit Chuadanga, he forecast.
