A youth died after falling on the bridge under construction at Jhikargacha in Jessore while cheering for Argentina's goal Sunday night.
The deceased is Rakib Hossain, 25, son of Aslam Hossain of Magurapatti Dhopapara area of Jhikargacha municipality.
According to locals, a big screen was arranged in Bangabandhu Park between two bridges in Jhikargacha's Krishnanagar area to watch the World Cup final match at night. After Argentina scored their second goal in the first half, the fans erupted into cheers. At that time, Rakib slipped and fell down the slope of the park onto the under-construction bridge.
The locals quickly rescued him and took him to the upazila health complex where the doctor declared him dead.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jhikargacha police station Suman Bhakta said that the body had been handed over to the family.
