Four people have been killed and one injured as an auto-rickshaw was hit by a bus in Palashbari, Gaibandha.
Around 7:30am on Thursday, the accident took place on the Gaibandha-Palashbari road in the Sakoa Majhipara area of Palashbari upazila.
The deceased are Shamim Ahmed, 37, Shimu Sarkar, 32, Shakil Mia, 35, and autorickshaw driver Nurul Islam.
According to eyewitnesses, the victims were traveling in an autorickshaw in the direction of Joypurhat in the morning.
An unidentified bus departing Dhaka ran over the autorickshaw on the way.
Three people were killed on the spot while two others were taken to hospital in critical condition. The auto rickshaw driver passed away en route to the hospital.
The other injured was first sent to Gaibandha Sadar Hospital and later to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Palashbari police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Masud Rana said that the accident occurred around 7:30am when a Gaibandha-bound bus hit the auto-rickshaw due to poor visibility caused by fog.
He also said that the body of the deceased has been kept at the police station. The process of handing over the body to the relatives is underway.
