A Swecchasebak league leader lost his one hand in an attack by miscreants in Lohagara upazila of Narail on Sunday night.
The seriously injured person is Akbar Hossain Lipon, 45, is the president of Mallikpur Union Swecchasebak League and a former member of the 2nd ward of the union.
Nasir Uddin, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lohagara police station, confirmed the matter.
According to local and police sources, in the most recent election, Lipon contested against Mostafa Kamal, the former chairman of the Mallikpur Union. Since then, an enmity developed between them.
On Sunday night, while returning from Moddho Para, a gang of miscreants attacked him and severed his one hand.
Being rescued by locals, he was first taken to Lohagara Upazila Health Complex. As his condition was critical, later he was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The police official said that immediately after the incident, he went to the spot and recovered the severed hand of the victim and sent it to Dhaka.
Additional police have been deployed in the area.
It is not yet clear who is involved in the incident. Initially, it is thought that such incidents can happen due to rural dominance, added the OC.
