He was taken to a room and stabbed when he went to talk to the police about the issue

Update : 06 Dec 2022, 11:00 PM

A local Jubo League leader in Comilla was stabbed to death allegedly due to a dispute over fishing in a pond on Tuesday.

The deceased was Jahirul Islam, senior vice president of the local union unit of Jubo League. He had a clothing store in Islampur of the capital and lived in a rented home in Shanir Akhra with his wife and two children.

According to locals and the police, there was a dispute over the farm between Jahirul's father, former Vitikandi UP chairman Abul Hossain, and UP Member Saiful Islam.

Saiful's son went fishing there in the afternoon, leading to an altercation which left at least 10 injured.

The police soon arrived at the spot and brought the situation under control.

SI Mahmudul Hasan was hurt by a rock at that time.

When Jahirul went to speak with the police, the other party took him away to a room, shut the door and slashed his hands and feet. He died on the way to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

Jahirul's family, upon hearing of his death, set the opponent's home ablaze.

His brother, Mohammad Ali, said: “Jahir stopped them (opponent party) from fishing in the pond, which belongs to us. For this Saiful's members of Saiful's gang killed my brother. Our house was robbed and attacked in front of the police.”

However, Saiful claimed that he was forcibly stopped from fishing by Jahirul and others which resulted in the altercation.

Titas police station OC Sudhin Chandra Das said the conflict started on Tuesday when one party went fishing. Currently the situation is normal. The body will be handed over to the family after post-mortem. No case has yet been filed in this incident.
