Police have arrested two UP chairmen of Tala upazila of Satkhira on the charge of mass gathering around BNP rally in Dhaka.
They were detained from their respective offices of the union parishad on Monday afternoon.
The arrestees are Jahangir Hossain, BNP-backed chairman of Dhandia union parishad and Prof Golam Farooq, Jamaat-backed chairman of Islamkati union.
A member of Dhandia union said that while Jahangir was working in the parishad, a team of DB police in plain clothes arrested him and took him away at about 1pm.
On the other hand, a member of Islamkati union said that chairman Golam Farooq was sitting in the council meeting. Meanwhile, a group of plain clothed police arrested him and took him away.
Satkhira Superintendent of Police Kazi Moniruzzaman said that the two UP chairmen were planning to sabotage the rally of BNP on December 10 with procession meetings in different places of the district. That's why they were arrested.
