Two children have died in a fire when they were locked in the house unattended in Madaripur.
The incident took place at around 12pm on Monday in the North Jhikarhati area of Ghatmajhi union of the upazila.
The deceased are estimated to be aged between one and two years. Their identities could not be known immediately.
Madaripur Sadar police sation Officer-in-Charge Monwar Hossain Chowdhury said the father of the two children was in jail and they were living with their mother and grandmother. The landlord of that house lives in Dhaka.
On Monday morning, their mother and grandmother left the house, locking them from outside.
When locals spotted smoke coming out of that house, they rushed to the spot and doused the fire, Monwar Hossain Chowdhury said.
Their bodies were recovered after the fire was doused. The mother and the grandmother have been missing since the incident.
The matter is being investigated, the OC added.
