PM Hasina in Polo Ground: BNP do not want to participate in poll

She says BNP wants to grab power like Ziaur Rahman by killing and installing military rule

Update : 04 Dec 2022, 07:28 PM

Indicating the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that they do not want to participate in the upcoming poll rather they want to grab the power like Ziaur Rahman by killing and installing military rule.

The premier made these remarks at the grand rally of Awami League in the Polo Ground of Chittagong on Sunday afternoon.

Criticizing the upcoming December 10 programs of BNP, she said: “In 1971, the Pakistani forces started to kill the intellectuals of Bangladesh just before our victory in the liberation war. December 10 is a very favourite date for BNP, maybe BNP leaders like this date just like the Pakistanis.”

“In the upcoming 10th December BNP said they will capture Dhaka city and will abolish Awami League from the state power,” said Sheikh Hasina.

The prime minister recalled the February 15 election of 1996 when BNP came into power and lost power within March 30 of the same year and said: “BNP should keep in mind that they have been refused in 1996 by the people when they grabbed power without holding a fair election.”

She said the opposition BNP has two virtues – one is rigging the vote and the other is killing the people. “They know it well that if the election is held, the people would not vote for the killers,” she said.

“They (BNP) don't care about the people. When the Awami League comes to power, we work for the people,” she added.

Referring to the arson violence unleashed by BNP during 2013-2015, the prime minister said their leaders Khaleda Zia and Tarique Zia will one day have to answer to the people why they killed and burnt innocent citizens by restoring to arson violence. “The people will take account of it one day,” she said.
