To celebrate the 225th anniversary of Baptist Church Sangha, a two-day program began at the Baptist Mission in Barisal on Friday.
The hundred-year old Baptist Mission School in Barisal has been decorated with a colourul banners and stage.
The two-day event includes prayer sessions, discussions, cultural programs and a ceremony to honour local Freedom Fighters.
The cultural event has drawn performers from various ethnic groups of Barisal, Mymensingh and Chittagong.
Dhaka TribuneThe Baptist Church Sangha is the oldest and largest Protestant denomination in Bangladesh. Its origins go back to the work started by Dr William Carey in 1796.
Representatives from 11 regional Baptist church associations outside Barisal and hundreds of delegations from different countries including India, Germany and the UK are also participating in the program.

Manju Samaddar, in-charge of the reception program, told Dhaka Tribune that over 300 people had joined the event from Dhaka alone.
Jayanta Adhikari, one of the members of the organizing committee, said through this association, many institutions were built across the country. These institutions were not established only for the purpose of preaching but also to engage in social activities.
Dhaka TribuneChairman of the Baptist Missionary Society Reverend Mark Owen gave a speech as the chief guest at the inaugural session. The program was presided over by Wing Commander (Retd) Christopher Adhikari, the president of association.
Christopher Adhikari in his speech said the main motto of the event is to create brotherhood among the Baptists. He also remembered Dr Kerry's contribution to preaching the religion in the region.
