A case has been filed against 170 people citing the names of 20 leaders and activists of the local BNP and other organizations in connection with the cocktail explosion in Bogra's Nandigram.
Upazila Chhatra League General Secretary Shuvo Ahmed filed the case at Nandigram police station on Sunday night in this regard.
Following the incident, police arrested Jubo Dal leader Mansur Rahman and Swechasebak League leader Atiqul Islam from the BNP office.
Meanwhile, it has been alleged that the plaintiff Chhatra League leader was being threatened to death on the mobile phone on Monday. Hence, he made a GD at the police station in the afternoon.
Shuvo Ahmed said that the leaders of Chhatra League were attacked in Sherpur upazila a few days ago. A protest march in this regard was organized in Nandigram on Sunday afternoon. Because of this, activists were gathering at Nandigram bus stand area.
In the meantime, some BNP leaders and activists came out of the BNP office and threw two cocktails at the Chhatra League leaders. A cocktail exploded but no one was injured, he added.
The Chhatra League's planned protest march was called off when its leaders and members became scattered.
Alauddin Sarkar, the president of the BNP upazila, meantime, vehemently refuted the Chhatra League's charges and claimed that fabrications were being used to entrap their leaders and supporters and to lower the turnout for the BNP rally in Rajshahi on December 3.
He also claimed that none of their activists threatened to kill Chhatra League leader Shuvo over the phone.
Nandigram police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Anwar Hossain said that a case had been filed in the case of cocktail throwing. Two people have already been arrested. An unexploded cocktail was recovered from the scene soon after the incident.
“An operation is underway to arrest other accused, “he added.
