Bus-truck collision kills 3 in Gopalganj

At least eight others injured in accident

Three people including the driver of a truck and the supervisor of a bus were killed and eight others were injured in a collision between the two vehicles in Gopalganj.

The accident took place at Gopinathpur of Gopalganj Sadar upazila on the Dhaka-Khulna highway around 11:15pm on Thursday.

Kashiani upazila's Bhatiapara Highway police Inspector Abu Nayeem Mofazzal Haque confirmed the matter.

One of the deceased, the bus supervisor, was identified as Ashik of Sriramkandi village in Tungipara upazila of Gopalganj district and truck driver Sohag of Chatul village in Boalmari upazila of Faridpur district. The identity of the other deceased could not be known immediately.

The Tungipara-bound Imad Paribahan bus from Dhaka hit the parked sand-laden truck from behind, killing the three on the spot, said the police inspector. 

Police and Fire Service personnel rescued the injured and took them to Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital.

After the incident, there was a 4-km traffic congestion on the Dhaka-Khulna highway. 

Traffic movement resumed at 1:15am on Friday after the bus was removed from the road with a crane.
