A Chhatra League leader was injured in an alleged attack by a Jubo League leader in Barisal on Monday.
Raihan Mujib, also a former member of the Government Gournadi College student's union, has been admitted to Gournadi Upazila Health Complex with serious injuries.
Her mother, Kamrun Nahar Rekha filed a written complaint on Monday afternoon at Gournadi police station accusing four people including the Jubo League leader.
Raihan Mujib, who is undergoing treatment, said Jubo League leader Atik Mia attacked him when he was selling bus tickets to the customers at Gournadi bus stand. He was given responsibilities to operate the bus counter as the ticket master at Gournadi bus stand by Rashed Howladar, a Jubo League leader of Gournadi Municipal area and also president of ward no 3.
“When I was selling tickets, Atik Mia abused me in unspeakable language. At one point, four-five people, led by Atik attacked and beat me up badly, leaving me with a serious head injury,” Raihan said.
“My relatives rushed to the spot. They rescued me with serious injuries and admitted me to the upazila health complex,” he added.
However, denying the allegation, Atik Mia said: “I have been managing that bus counter for a long time. Without informing me, Raihan suddenly started selling bus tickets on Monday morning. We were having a heated conversation and during Raihan's fight with my brother, he fell on a brick on the side of the road. That is how he got the head injury.”
“The local Awami League leaders have promised to settle the issue within one or two days,” he added.
Sub-Inspector (SI) of Gournadi police station Sushanto Kumar said he visited the spot upon receiving the information. A written complaint has been received in this regard and legal action will be taken after the investigation, he said.
