Crocodile in Padma stuns fishermen

The crocodile was later released into the river

A gharial crocodile was caught in the fishing net of a fisherman at the Hardinge Bridge point of the Padma River in Bheramara of Kushtia on Friday.

The crocodile was released into the river at around 8:30pm.

Bheramara Upazila Forest Officer Zahidul Islam confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

The gharial crocodiles mainly live in freshwater. So, the crocodile was released into the river as per the Wildlife Conservation Act, he added.

According to the official, local fishermen threw nets in the Padma to catch fish around 5pm on Friday. After a while, one of them named Sajal saw the crocodile in the net. 

Being informed, the forest officials went to the spot and released it in the Padma River around 8:30pm.
