The police have arrested an assistant professor of Bogra's Govt Azizul Haque College on charges of raping, impregnating, and beating up a student of the institution.
Jinnatul Islam Pramanik, 53, who teaches accounting at the college, was arrested at his residence in the Chaksutrapur area of Bogra on Tuesday night.
Earlier that day, the rape survivor filed a case against him at Bogra Sadar police station.
OC Noor-e-Alam Siddiqui said Jinnatul would be sent to jail through court.
According to the case statement, the student in question started taking private lessons from Jinnatul about four years ago. After developing a relationship, the teacher took intimate pictures and videos of her. Later, Jinnatul forced her to have physical relations several times by threatening to publish those pictures and videos. On October 10, he took her home and raped her several times, resulting in a pregnancy. The rape survivor informed Jinnatul about the conception when she was called to a hotel in the city on Monday. When she demanded to get married, the teacher threatened to abort the fetus before beating her up.
The investigating officer of the case, SI Jebunnesa, said the student would be sent to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (SZMC) for medical examination.
